January 26th - 28th 2007
The Mission-shaped Church report published in 2004 has had a huge impact on the UK Church, selling over 18,000 copies of the book was ‘fresh expressions’ of church – new and different ways of being church in our changing culture.
For the 2007 Conference we had as our speaker, Rev Dr. Steve Croft.
Steven Croft was appointed Archbishops’ Missioner and Team Leader of Fresh Expressions from September, 2004. Prior to taking up his post with Fresh Expressions, Steven was Warden of Cranmer Hall in Durham and before that a Vicar in Halifax, and a curate in Enfield.
Steve was talking on “Moving on in a Mission-shaped Church”, based on his booklet that will help churches to practically apply the messages of Mission-shaped Church to their own contexts and the various forms of Fresh Expressions of church found throughout the country.
All over the country Christians are taking this message on board and stepping out in faith to start new forms of church. However, often this isn't as easy as it sounds!
What defines a fresh expression of church?
A fresh expression of church is intended as a community or congregation which is already (or has the potential to grow into) a church in its own right. It is not intended to be a half way house or stepping stone for someone joining a Sunday morning congregation.
Many churches have ageing and shrinking congregations; unless we re-invent church so that it becomes meaningful to our society - we could be the last generation of believers!!
